Faces of Frisco ISD is a monthly feature highlighting some of the untold stories of FISD and the people who make FISD special.
The little school house located at Frisco’s Safety Town is a favorite of small visitors but while it had school desks and an old-fashioned bell in its bell tower, it lacked the color and excitement of today’s classrooms.
But this fall, art teachers Denise Boles of Mooneyham Elementary, Colleen Cromley of Anderson Elementary and Melissa Rader of Borchardt Elementary Schools volunteered their talents, and with supplies provided from the Safety Town storage room, created a realistic classroom, complete with a word wall, artwork and a bulletin board.
The three had not been to Safety Town, though they had read articles and heard students talk about the child-friendly facility built next to Frisco Fire Station’s Central Station. They looked at the miniature school room and immediately came up with many ideas.
These three art teachers answered the call from the FISD Communications Department asking for volunteers to work on the room. They visited the school after work to come up with ideas and then returned on a Saturday morning. Cromley even came with her hair styled for the afternoon, when she was scheduled to be a member of a wedding party.
Their work paid off and was completed in time for this year’s Safety Town Trick-or-Treat and the upcoming Holiday Lights show, scheduled for December 12,13, and 14, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23.
