Scholarship Recipient Named Texas Tech Student Body President
March 12, 2010

Drew Graham Drew Graham, a Frisco Education Foundation scholarship recipient and graduate of Centennial High School, recently took a few minutes to fill the Foundation in on what is going on at Texas Tech, where he has been named student body president! Drew is also the son of Pam Graham, Lead Speech Language Pathologist Diagnostician at the Acker Special Programs Center.

How has life changed for you since high school? What’s your major?

One thing that changed was my major. In high school I thought I’d like to study TV broadcasting but switched to Public Relations. There are a lot of changes that every student has to make in the transition from college to high school. The biggest change was having complete control of my own schedule. It is great, but occasionally I did miss some of the conveniences of home. Other than that, in a new place you have to make new friends and meet a lot of new people you didn’t know before. I am currently a Junior Public Relations major and Spanish minor.

What will be your duties as student body president? Are there perks?

As President I will meet once a month with the Board of Regents, Chancellor and President of the University, as well as local politicians, to make sure the student voices are heard and lobby the legislature for higher education reform.

Some of the perks are the opportunity to meet a lot of people, having my own office to work in and have meetings, a monthly salary, a box at the Texas Tech Football games and the ability to oversee a few hundred thousand dollars of student’s fees.

Do you remember FEF Scholarship Night at FISD?

I remember going to the scholarship night thinking I would receive the scholarship for children of employees who participate in payroll deduction. I was thrilled and proud to receive two leadership scholarships as well. It was also fun being there with my friends and seeing all the great scholarships people were awarded.

Has your scholarship money gone far? Was it beneficial?

The scholarship money was a great help when starting college. I was glad to put the money to good use toward tuition. It allowed my first year to be less worry about money and more about working on my classes and meeting people! There were so many extra expenses and so the scholarship money was perfect.

What are your plans for the future?

I’m looking forward to a great senior year. After that I am planning on law school or graduate school somewhere in Texas.  Then maybe an opportunity to work for the State Department at an embassy abroad or something in my field of study.
