Commit Not to Quit has expanded its mission this year – reaching out past the halls of Frisco High School to future students who attend two of the high school’s feeder schools – Bright Elementary and Staley Middle School, according to Vicki Perkowski, associate principal at Frisco High School.
Commit Not to Quit is a dropout prevention program instituted at FHS last year. The program uses posters, literature and videos to educate students, parents, staff and the community about the warning signs of students in danger of dropping out of school and the life challenges that face a high school drop out. More than 800 students, 180 staff members, 50 dignitaries and 75 business people signed promise cards last year committing to the education of all FHS students.
This year FHS is visiting Bright and Staley with a celebration of the importance of high school graduation and with promise card signings. Dignitaries from throughout the district and community were invited to visit Bright, Staley or FHS during specific time in March and sign a promise card during lunch periods where students may witness the signings. The motto of Commit Not to Quit is “the tassel is worth the hassle,” and FHS leaders are dedicated to spreading that message from kindergarten to this year’s senior class.
The Commit Not to Quit program is funded by Grants for Great Ideas, a grant program offered through the Frisco Education Foundation for innovative educational programs.
