2007 Chili Challenge Results, Bright Takes Home 1st Place (October, 2007)

A record crowd of approximately 3,000 people attended this year’s Frisco Education Foundation Chili Challenge, held outdoors at Pizza Hut Park, according to Allison Miller, director of the Frisco Education Foundation.

The chili challenge raises funds for FEF scholarships and grants. This year’s event took in $17,000.

This was the first year for the event to be held outside and the weather was perfect. Judges for the event were Football Hall of Famer and former Dallas Cowboy, Tony Dorsett, City Councilmember Jim Joyner, Andy Hardin of the McKinney Chamber of Commerce, and Jim Gandy of the Frisco Economic Development Corporation. Their choices for winners were 1st Place, Bright Elementary – which featured a spicy concoction made with sirloin steak; 2nd Place, Sem Elementary; and 3rd place, Christie Elementary.

Winners of the best participation awards, based on ticket sales went to Curtsinger Elementary, 626 tickets; Sparks Elementary, 590 tickets; and Ashley Elementary, 517 tickets. Honorable mention went to Liberty High School, 496 tickets, and Rogers Elementary, 478.

The People’s Choice Awards based on ballots cast by attendees went to Curtsinger Elementary, 1st place; Rogers Elementary, 2nd place; and Sparks Elementary, 3rd place; with an honorable mention going to Smith Elementary.

Best Presentation awards for booth theme went to Boals Elementary, 1st place; Curtsinger Elementary, 2nd place; and the KEYS/SOC campuses, 3rd place; with an honorable mention to Robertson Elementary.

In the corporate/civic/community division, 1st place went to the Frisco Noon Rotary and 2nd place to the Frisco Fire Department.
