For the last two years, Borchardt Elementary has held a Ruth Borchardt day on their namesake’s birthday, March 5, to celebrate her life and her legacy to the students of FISD. Mrs. Borchardt died two years ago at the age of 102.

As part of the celebration, students can create portraits of Mrs. Borchardt,  and one is chosen each year to be placed in the wall of fame. This year’s winner is a third grader whose pencil drawing was felt to capture the spirit of Mrs. Borchardt.

The family of Mrs. Borchardt was present and students and staff, dressed in circa 40s and 50s attire, learned about her life and the things that were important to her.
