Boals Elementary Puts Character into Action (March, 2008)
Boals Elementary students have put their character education into action and their pennies in a jar. The school follows the Six Pillars of Character Education as a part of the guidance program. For the last six weeks the students have been learning about the character trait of caring. As a special all school project the students participated in a coin drive to purchase calling cards for the troops overseas. For two weeks the students brought in their pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters and raised $1, 285.00. In class discussions students talked about how it feels good to helpa worthy group like the soldiers, according to Cheryl Hendrix, counselor at Boals Elementary.
