Bands Compete at Heritage Festivals and Receive AWARDS!

The Bands competed in the Heritage Festivals: Atlanta Contest on Friday and Saturday, April 25-26, 2010.Results are as follows:  

Jazz Band (Mr. Denis/Mr. Gomez):

Gold Award Score = 98.3

1st Place in Division

Maestro Awards for Outstanding Performers: ALL PLAYERS; special award to James Newton, guitar (12) and Tanner Jones, trombone (12)  

Concert Band (Mrs. Marquez):

Silver Award Score = 89.0

1st Place in Division  

Symphonic Band (Mr. Denis):

Gold Award Score = 90.5

1st Place in Division

3rd Place in Overall Competition  

Wind Symphony (Mr. Miller):

Gold Award Score = 99.7

1st Place in Division

1st Place in Overall Competition

Congrats Wakeland Band

The Concert Band performed at the UIL Region XXIV Concert at Sightreading Contest on Wednesday, April 14. Their ratings are as follows:

Concert: I-II-II = 2nd Division/Excellent

Sightreading: I-I-I = 1st Division/Superior  

The Symphonic Band performed at the UIL Region XXIV Concert at Sightreading Contest on Wednesday, April 14. Their ratings are as follows:

Concert: I-I-I = 1st Division/Superior

Sightreading: I-I-I = 1st Division/Superior

Congrats WHS Wind Symphony

On Thursday, April 15, the Wind Symphony performed at the UIL Region XXIV Concert and Sightreading Contest.  For the fourth consecutive year, the ensemble received straight 1st Division Ratings in Concert and Sightreading.   Here are some judge comments: "Great ensemble sounds. Such wonderful players." Steve Madsen, Bedford Junior HS (retired) "What a GREAT band!" - Mike Brashear, Richardson-Berkner HS (retired) "Bravo! You make wonderful music" - Jeremy Kondrat, Plano Senior HS "This was a very musical performance. It was a real pleasure for me to hear you today" - John Starkey, Friendswood HS "Students play with such conviction and clarity. I enjoyed hearing you today" - Brian Britt, University of Oklahoma
