August 27, 2010

Dear Heritage Family,

Welcome to Heritage High School and to a new school year.  My name is Mark Mimms and it is my honor to be the Principal. We are excited to welcome each of you as we begin a new chapter in our brief history as a school.  We first want say how excited we are as a staff to see our students once again and we especially want to welcome the class of 2014! As we welcome them to the family we know that we are continuing to learn as a school and as such, we recognized that we have our strengths and weaknesses and we also know that we have many challenges and opportunities ahead. However, because of our vision, we believe we have a sense of where we need to go and what we must accomplish.  It is our belief in each other that will compel us to achieve great things this year and beyond.

In this weekly letter, through our School Messenger E-Mail System we will share the great news and happenings here at Heritage. The format will include information on Academics, Co-Curricular Activities, Extra-Curricular Activities, Upcoming events, and other miscellaneous items. Communication is the key to being informed, to the understanding of what we are trying to accomplish and to the ultimate success of our programs.

As our promise, we will continue to teach and inspire our students to share in this vision and we will challenge them to achieve through increased rigor in the classroom.  We will continue to build on the significant strides we’ve made and to find new and challenging ways to reach our students.

Academics:  This week was spent on building teacher- student relationships, learning about the initiatives of the school, C2Gtm, C.LA.S.S, etc. , about how we are supporting our students in the Pre-AP and AP courses and a new Pilot Program in our Social Studies classes.

Co- Curricular:  The Rock School had its first performance at the Pep Rally. They were a big hit with their rendition of Eye of a Coyote. Our First Pep Rally was full of school spirit and a great success thanks to our cheerleaders, band and choir.

Extra-Curricular:  We are so proud of the volleyball teams this week. They have been working extremely hard since August 2nd. On Tuesday night they swept Lonestar. The Varsity did a great job winning a very exciting and intense match in 4 sets. The atmosphere was electric with a great group of students, sub varsity volleyball players, coaches, and teachers cheering the girls on to victory.

More information on this weekend’s games and competitions for the other sport’s in next week’s letter.
