Elie Nabushosi's mother, Gorethy Nabushosi Nweze, is a part of the Congo Restoration. It's a group that helps rebuild Eastern Congo by targeting improved education, sheltering orphans and rehabilitating brutalized women.Elie asked if he could use some of our extra Heritage shirts for the orphans and our Student Council thought it was a great idea! Just another reason to proud of Heritage!

Artwork by Ali Khanian and DiLaraTurgut has been selected to be part of the Texas Art Education's Youth Art Month Capitol Celebration. The exhibit will showcase Pre-K through 12th grade works of art from across the state of Texas. Thirty school districts will be represented at the Texas Association of School Board and School Administrator Conference. The exhibition will be on display for conference attendees, September 30 - October 2, 2011. Congratulations, Ali and DiLara!
2012 National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalist
Congratulations to Leyatt Betre, HHS senior, who has qualified as a Semifinalist in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program. As one of approximately 16,000 high school seniors who are Semifinalists, she will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,400 National Merit Scholarships to be offered next spring. The Semifinalist qualifying score for Texas on the 2010 PSAT was 219. Leyatt has also been recognized as a Semifinalist in the 2012 National Achievement Scholarship Program.

Congratulations to Nihar Damarasingu, Naga Pochiraju, Dinesh Sanekommu, and Xiaying Zhang for being recognized as a Commended Student in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program. Students had to achieve a Selection Index of 202 on the 2010 PSAT to receive this honor.

Journalism and Year Book Staff
Congratulations to the journalism department as both broadcast and yearbook programs have recently received UIL awards. Coyote Nation TV AND last year’s yearbook have received Awards of Distinguished Merit from UIL. This is the highest critique honor a program can receive from the state! Additionally, the following yearbook awards were given to the following: In captions, first place was awarded to Casey Moon and Erika Johnston; The staff received honorable mention for their index section; Honorable Mention for Student Life Feature story was awarded to Kayla Hernandez; Academic Photo 3rd place goes to Casey Moon.
Congratulations to the yearbook program as they have recently received two national awards. First, last year’s yearbook has been recognized for excellence and featured in the 2011 Jostens Gotcha Covered Look Book. The Tribute was one of only 400 yearbooks selected from over 3,000 submitted nationally! Second, the yearbook has received a Gold Medalist rating from Columbia Scholastic Press Association. This is the highest critique honor a program can receive from this national organization!

BPA Students Compete in Washington, D.C.
These four Heritage students and two advisors, Coach Kent Ackmann and Ms. Jerry Burks, recently returned from Business Professionals of America National Conference / Competition in Washington, D.C. Chris Mertz, Idicula Mathew, Shyam Damarasingu and Brandon Hollowell represented Heritage High School and FISD well. Please congratulate them on their accomplishments and a job well-done!

Samantha Cuello received a 4 at the Regional Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) which is equal to UIL competition for Art.

Congratulations to freshman Lexie Morrison for placing 1st in feature writing this past weekend at the UIL Regional competition. Lexie is going to be the first to represent Heritage Journalism at the state level in a couple weeks!
Congratulations, Nihar Damarasingu!
Junior tennis player Nihar Damarasingu is the new 9-AAAA (Nine, Four A) District Champion in boys singles. Nihar beat Jacob VanDerSchans from Centennial 6-2, 6-2 in the final in Lewisville.
Nihar will advance to the Region 2-AAAA (Two, Four A) tournament on April 19th and 20th at the University of North Texas in Denton. Congratulations, and Good Luck, Nihar! 
Four students made Heritage History by being the first to place at BPA State competition and are Heritage's first to advance to the national level of competition!
Congratulations to the Web Application team of Shyam Damarasingu, Chris Mertz, Brandon Hollowell and Idicula Mathew for placing 2nd, and Brandon for placing 4th in Fundamentals of Web Design! These young men will advance to the National Leadership Conference/Competition in Washington, D.C. in May! Congratulations, and good luck in D.C.!

Heritage High School's First Band Student Advancing to All-State Band!
Fall 2010:
This past Saturday Jonathan Gentry competed in the Area TMEA band auditions in Abilene. We are proud to announce that Jonathan placed first in the class 5A oboe auditions and has advanced to the Texas All-State Band. This makes Jonathan the first All-State student in the brief history of the Heritage Band. He’ll travel to San Antonio in February to perform and represent Heritage with some of the finest musicians in the state. Congratulations on this tremendous accomplishment.

The Heritage Wind Ensemble competed in the UIL Region 24 Concert and Sight-Reading Contest Wednesday, April 15. We are proud to announce the band received 1st Division Ratings from all six judges. This caps off a perfect UIL season for the Heritage Band with complete superior ratings in both marching band and concert & sight-reading.
The band also traveled to Corpus Christi to participate in the South Coast music festival. Both the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble again received first division ratings from all judges. The band staff would like to extend our congratulations to all the students for these tremendous accomplishments. In just one year, the Heritage Band has already developed a tradition and legacy of excellence. We couldn’t be more proud!
Congratulations, Coyote Nation TV and Mrs. Pollard for earning the Journalism Department's first hardware at state competition! The broadcast staff earned an Award of Achievement rating from UIL -- the second highest award a program can receive. Great job, Coyote Journalists!

UIL Academics -- Journalism
Coyote Advances to Regional Competition
Monday, March 29, two students placed in the UIL Academic, Journalism events -- Katie Callan placed 5th in Headline Writing and Erica White placed 2nd in News Writing! Erica will be representing Heritage at the Regional level at the end of April. Mrs. Rebecca Pollard, Journalism Teacher, coaches the UIL Journalism events. Congratulations and good luck, Erica, as you advance to Regionals!

District Wrestling Champ
Logan White became the first Heritage athlete to earn a district title by winning the 215 lbs. weight class at the District 16 Wrestling Championships. In a rematch from a previous competition against Newman-Smith Logan defeated his opponent by pinning him in the third period. Going into the final period Logan was losing the match 7-2. Logan battled in for the final takedown and pinned his opponent with 15 seconds left in the match. Logan won all three of his matches in the tournament by fall. By winning the District Championship Logan advanced to the Region 2 Championships and helped lead the team to an eighth place overall finish at the District Championships.
