STN National Awards and Student of the Year Announced
The Student Television Network (STN), the largest scholastic broadcasting network in the country, has announced winners of its 2012 Spring Nationals competition and Frisco ISD-TV crew members received honors. Click here for story.
FISD Students Compete at National BPA Competition, Earn Microsoft Certification

Eleven Frisco ISD students participated in the National Leadership Conference of Business Professionals of America in Chicago, IL on April 25-29, 2012. CTEC Law Teacher Selected as Teacher of the Year by Texas Lawyers Auxiliary
Ben Ewald, teacher at the Frisco ISD Career and Technical Education Center, has been selected Teacher of the Year by the Texas Lawyers Auxiliary. The announcement was made this week by Martha Ann Franco, chairman of the Awards Committee after the judges' panel selected Ewald in an overwhelming decision. Read full story.
Two CTEC Graphic Design Students Win Prizes in Financial Literacy Poster Contest
Julie Kwon and Emily Atkins are a bit richer and the FISD Career and Technical Education Center will get a bit of cash too, as the result of the two students producing winning posters in the 2012 PlainsCapital bank/CCCS of Greater Dallas Financial Literacy Poster Contest. CTEC Graphic Design Student Wins YEA!
Andrea Shaver of Liberty High School, who also studies Graphic Design and Illustration at the FISD Career and Technical Education Center, was selected as semifinalist at the first YEA Investors Forum.
Her business is Flaming Squirrel Design (a graphic design business). Andrea will travel to New York to compete in the Saunders Scholars Bright Ideas Business Competition during the first week of May.
She received congratulations from Chamber representatives Rich Allen, Kevin Thompson, Keith Britton and Tony Felker Wednesday after learning she would receive funding for her business plan and head to New York to compete with other young entrepreneurs. CTE Teacher Named to National BPA Board
Jerry Burks, teacher and Career and Technical Education department head at Heritage High School was elected to the National Board of Trustees of Business Professionals of America at the National Leadership Conference held in Chicago, Illinois April 25 – 28, 2012. Read more here.
Student Journalists Inducted into NSPA
Kayla Kawalec (Frisco ISD-TV Producer/Editor), Jamie Miller (Frisco ISD- TV Producer/Editor), and Shelby Dietz (Titan TV Senior Producer) have been announced as inductees for this distinct national listing. The NSPA Honor Roll recognizes student journalists who have excelled as journalists and scholars, have served on staff for a minimum of one year, and have a minimum grade point average of 3.75.
CTE Students To Serve as District V FFA
Officers Mike Rauch and Austin Hinson of Centennial FFA were both elected to serve as District V FFA Officers for the 2012-2013 school year. District V is made up of all of the chapters in Collin County. Candidates had to take a test over knowledge of Texas agriculture and FFA and gave a speech last night at the District V Spring Meeting and were elected by their peers to serve on the team.
Frisco ISD-TV Media Team Wins UIL Gold, Silver and Bronze
The Career & Technical Education Center Student Media Division of Frisco ISD-TV received two gold medals, one silver medal, four bronze medals, and three Honorable Mentions in a variety of Broadcasting Individual Achievement Awards. Three Aspiring Architects Learn the History of Frisco down to the Inch
Fourth-year architectural students from the Frisco ISD Career and Technical Education Center are recording the measurements and developing floor plans of the buildings at the Frisco Heritage Center. Here they are working in the chapel of the old Lebanon Baptist Church. From left to right are Seton Lowe, Anthony Simerson and Shane Heil. All plan to study architecture or engineering in college. Frisco ISD-TV Crewmembers selected for the 2012 National Scholastic Press Association’s (NSPA) Journalism Honor Roll
Kayla Kawalec (Producer/Editor) and Jamie Miller (Producer/Editor) have been announced as inductees for this distinct national listing. The NSPA Honor Roll recognizes student journalists who have excelled as journalists and scholars, have served on staff for a minimum of one year, and have a minimum grade point average of 3.75. A complete list of Honor Roll inductees will be printed in the Best of the High School Press, NSPA’s annual publication showcasing award winning student work. The list is also available on the Contest and Critique page of the NSPA website at http://nspa.studentpress.org .
Frisco ISD-TV Will Receive Press Women of Texas Awards
Frisco ISD-TV crew members will receive honors for videos entered in the Press Women of Texas (PWT) 2012 Edith Fox King High School Journalism Contest, according to Eva Coleman, instructor and executive producer. Read full results
Six Culinary Students Receive Scholarships

On April 12, six CTE Center Culinary Arts students received scholarships from the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association (GDRA) totaling $30,000. Read full story here.
CHS FFA Wins Land Judging Contest

Frisco Centennial FFA Land Judging team placed 3rd at the Area V contest. By placing in the top 5 teams, they qualified for the state contest to be held at Tarleton State University on April 19th. Team members included, Mike Rauch (4th place individual), Alyssa Rodgers, Austin Hinson, & Jacob Schluns (3rd place individual)
Cliff Weiss Memorial Essay Contest Winner
Christie Shokler's, Advanced Graphic Design and Illustration student at the CTE Center, entry was selected as the winner for the multimedia essay category in the 2012 Cliff Weiss Essay Contest. Her brochure will be published on the ACTE website in the coming weeks.
