GDRA Scholarship Awards
More than $80,000 in scholarships will be awarded to 21 deserving North Texas students, including six Culinary Art students from FISD. The generous honors for highly accomplished culinary students were presented at the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association (GDRA) Scholarship Dinner, held at CityPlace Conference Center on April 21. Spring Computing Fest First Place Winners
Michael Intondi (FHS) and David Zheng (FHS) placed 1st in their division beating out six other teams in the UTD Spring Computing Fest, which is a competition for programmers. Total there were about 50 high school students that participated in the three different levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced). The project was something the two students developed on their own and is a game that was made for the Xbox and is playable on the Xbox.
Grimminger Wins for Money Management Project
Taylor Grimminger (LHS), Texans Credit Union Student Employee and CTEC student recently won top honors at the Texas DECA competition for her project focused on money management for fourth grade students. As a state winner, Taylor will compete in the international competition, which will be held in Anaheim, California in late April. Read the full story.
CTE Students Design Dropout Campaign Ads
Assistant Principals Vicki Perkowski and Bruce Coachman at Frisco High School applied for a grant that would help prevent students from dropping out of high school. “The Tassel is worth the Hassle” or the “Commit Not To Quit” program is a school wide program to educate the FHS student population on the limitations of dropping out. Several Advertising Design students from the CTE Center designed ads for the campaign. The above poster was designed by Andre Jurgensen (Liberty HS). Books for Babies Brochure
Frisco ISD Libraries are proud to be part of the Books for Babies program which provides a canvas bag with a classic board book and information on the importance of reading to the parents of every baby born at Centennial Medical Center. The program is partnership involving FISD, Frisco Public Library, and Centennial Medical Center, with generous support from the Frisco Noon Rotary Club. The new brochure included in the bag was designed by CTEC Advertising Design student, Jennifer Karr (Liberty HS).
Ad Design wins ACTE Essay Contest
The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) today announced Cindy Bai (LHS) won the secondary category for the 2009 Cliff Weiss Essay Contest. The winners wrote essays on the topic “What would you tell President Obama about your CTE experience?” ACTE received 158 entries, and each of the winners will receive an award of $250 and the essays will be published in the May issue of Techniques. Ad Design Student Wins 2nd place
Zaid Mohammed (LHS) was the 2nd place winner of The Art Institutes and Americans for the Arts poster deisgn competition at The Art Institute of Dallas. Click here to see the winning entry.
Animation Winners Advance to State
Frisco High School students, Isaac Blackmon, Patrick Hoyle, Connor Sims and J Goltz placed 1st in the BPA Computer Animation Team Event at Regional's on January 24 at North Garland High School. They are going to the BPA State competition in Austin on March 4-7 to determine whether they will move on to nationals in May. Issac Blackmon and Patrick Hoyle are also students at the CTEC Center in Animation I.
GDRA FSPrep Culinary Competition
On Tuesday, January 27, 2009, the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association hosted its 1st Annual GDRA FSPrep Student Competition at the Frisco ISD CTE Center. Seniors Nataly Mora (FHS) and Jordan Molder (WHS) brought home 3rd place honors in the competition. Their instructor is Chef Jennifer Gause. CTE Technology Awards
CTE students partcipate in a variety of contests and competitions throughout their coursework. One of the main contest students compete in is the Texas Computer Education Association's annual technology contests. To see some previous winners, click here.
