My College Dollars

MTV, Get Schooled and the College Board today (January 2012) launched "My College Dollars," a Facebook application that utilizes information from a user's Facebook profile - including age, gender and state - to connect students with targeted financial aid opportunities. In addition to matching students with scholarships.

GO CENTER at the CTE Center

Go Center Students

College students from TWU (Texas Women's University) come twice a week to the CTEC to assist students in researching post-secondary education, search for scholarships; and help students fill out applications. The CTE Center has been selected to be one of a handful of GO Centers in the state. This is an exciting program that brings current college students to our high school campus to assist with your college search, navigating the application process and taking advantage of scholarships and grants. All Frisco ISD high school students are eligible to attend these valuable sessions. Read all about it!

Go Center Hours:

  • Mondays 8:45-12:00 (1st and 2nd period)
  • Tuesdays 4:30-7:30 PM

Go Center will be open till Thanksgiving holiday week.  The team will take a break till mid January and then run till end of April.  Go Center is located in the Career Center (counseling center) just inside the atrium of the CTE Center – follow the signs to Late Night @ CTEC & Go Center.

Late Night at the CTE Center
Late Night Hours

Late Night @ CTE Center is a time set aside for any Frisco ISD student and/or parent to come by the CTE Center to meet with the CTE Center Counselor, Mrs. Jennings.  She will work with students and/or parents on topics related to graduation, careers, and planning.  This is a time where students/parents may drop in without an appointment for assistance with post secondary planning. This is a come and go time slot – again no appointments just drop in and work with Mrs. Jennings and/or the Go Team.

Late Night @ CTE Center Hours:

  • Every Tuesday that school is in session – from 4:30-8:00 PM

Late Night @ CTE Center is located just inside the CTE Center’s atrium in the Career Center – follow the signs from the front door!

For more information about either program contact the Counselor, Mrs. Jennings.

Selective Service System

Although there has been no military draft in the United States since the 1970s, young men are required to register with the federal Selective Service when they turn 18, or within 30 days of that birthday. In the event that military conscription is resumed, these registered men, ages 18-25, will form the draft pool. In all 50 states, students who fail to register are not eligible forstudent loans or college grants, government jobs or federally funded job training. This one is most important for the students to grasp (the loans and grants part).

How does one register? Young men may register online at the Selective Service web site (www.SSS.gov) or by mail, using a Selective Service postcard available at any post office. Have your Social Security number handy.

What happens if an 18-year-old does not register? It's afelony to not register. The punishment includes fines of up to $250,000 or five years in prison.
