Five FISD art students were honored as part of the State Youth Art Month Capitol Exhibition on Sunday, Feb. 27 th at the William B. Travis Bldg. in Austin. 100 artworks were selected for the exhibition by the YAM committee sponsored by the Texas Art Education Association. Students, parents, teachers and administrators attended a reception followed by the awards ceremony.

Following the welcome by the YAM chairman, Mike Hall, and TAEA’s President, Kristen Marstaller, the Director of Fine Arts for the TEA, Tom Waggoner spoke about support for the arts.

FISD students honored at this year’s exhibition were Zaida Quintero an 8 th grader at Wester MS, Chris Piepenbrok, a 10 th grade student at CHS and Nathan Faubion, Ryan Gertenbach and Charlie Vu from FHS (the latter two were not able to attend). Superintendent Rick Reedy and Assistant Superintendent Debra Nelson also attended the 2005 YAM celebration along with the students’ parents and teachers Kristen De Carlo, June Waggener and Heather Wolford.

Governor Rick Perry has proclaimed March as Youth Art Month.
