It was held in the rotunda of the Capitol Building and was followed by an awards ceremony and reception in the annex.

Following a welcome by both the YAM chairman Sherry White and TAEA’s President Nina Boothe, Dr. Adrian Johnson of TEA spoke in support of the fine arts and presented medals to the students.

FISD students honored at this year’s exhibition were Thomas Foster from Curtsinger Elementary and Travis Case, Alex Cox, Kilee Herlin and Sara Martin from Frisco High School. FISD Fine Arts Director Dr. Daryl Trent also attended the 2007 YAM celebration along with parents and teachers Laverne Forwark and June Waggener.

Governor Rick Perry has proclaimed March as Youth Art Month. Youth Art Month was created in 1961 to emphasize the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs. The exhibition will be on public display through May 10th. FISD has been selected for the exhibition for the past 10 years during which three student works have been selected for to hang in the Governor’s Office.
