Pioneer Heritage and Fowler Discover Western Culture(May, 2008)

Park Rangers from LBJ RanchPioneer Heritage Middle School and Fowler Middle School each recently hosted Western Heritage Day for their seventh grade students.

Speakers and demonstrators included: Clifton Fifer discussed the role of the Black Cowboy; Roy Neal who described the role of the mountain man; the LBJ National Chuck Wagon exhibit and Park Rangers Jonathan Brotzman and Barbara Sagelieb gave demonstrations describing the role of the "cookie" and pioneer woman; Catherine Fowler talked about the pioneer days of Frisco; Mary Neal described the role of the Native American woman and pioneer woman; and Bill Csanyi  demonstrated flint knapping skills.

Students also enjoyed playing old-fashioned games such as checkers and learning about rope making.
