Frisco Urban Forestry Board Shares a Tree with Second Graders (November, 2006)

The Urban Forestry Board, a citizen’s board that works with the City of Frisco’s Parks and Recreation Department, planted trees and held a tree education program for second grade students at Christie Elementary School and Sparks Elementary School on November 8. The board members passed around tree “cookies” round pieces of tree trunks that show the rings that explain the life cycle of trees. The board also explains about native trees and how we can conserve trees and also about water conservation, explaining that over watering can kill a young tree. Each child was sent home with a young seedling tree to plant.
