Telephone Book Recycling Winners(February, 2008)

The City of Frisco’s Environmental Education office has announced that Spears Elementary, Clark Middle School and Frisco High School were the top winners in the annual Telephone Book Recycling Contest.

The overall winner was Otis Spears Elementary School with 4,622 telephone books. Spears students were honored February 15 with a presentation by Mayor Mike Simpson and Councilman Matt Lafata.

In all, 19 schools participated and collected a total of 24,628 books. Jeremy Starritt, environmental education coordinator for the City of Frisco, estimates that this means a savings of 35,000 gallons of water, 2,050,000 kilowatts of electricity , 165 cubic feet of space in the landfill, and 1,250 trees.
