FISD Wins TAEA State Art Award (November, 2005)

Mike Hall, chairman of the Youth Art Month committee for the Texas Art Education Association, announced on November 1st that Frisco ISD had been selected for their 2005 TAE Award“Outstanding Youth Art Month Observance” award. FHS art teacher and district chairman for the TAEA YAM events, June Waggener, was recognized for her leadership and service. She was on hand at the state conference in Austin on November 6th to receive the award.

The award cited outstanding participation and success in TAEA’s State Capitol YAM Show, the TASB/TASA Show and the Governor’s Office Show. Students from Centennial High School, Frisco High School and Wester Middle School had work chosen for the 2005 State Capitol YAM Show which was attended by Superintendent Rick Reedy and Assistant Superintendent Debra Nelson, parents, students and teachers. Recent Frisco High School graduate, Charlie Vu, was one of the 10 students whose artwork was selected by Anita Perry for the 2005-06 exhibit in Gov. Perry’s office. Although the TASB/TASA Show was postponed twice due to the Dallas Convention Center’s use as a shelter for both hurricanes, FISD contributed 6 artworks from Curtsinger Elementary, Wester Middle School, Centennial High School and Frisco High School.

Hall also expressed appreciation at the district’s website for giving the YAM activities excellent coverage.
