School Resource Officers Recognized (August, 2008)

The Frisco Police Department announces that the department’s School Resource Unit has been selected as a National Model Agency for 2008 by the National Association of School Resource Officers, (NASRO).

Frisco was one of five cities selected at the national conference in Arizona this summer.

The Frisco Police have 13 resource officers and one sergeant working in Frisco ISD schools. The program was initiated by the police department and FISD in 1996. The program grew out of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program which has been in FISD since 1993. The SRO program is one of many partnerships between FISD and the City of Frisco that benefits the community. The resource officers provide an on-site professional presence to assist administrators with law enforcement issues, develop strong relationships with students, and oversee programs such as Shattered Dreams, D.A.R.E., the Junior Police Academy and other training programs.
