Smith Elementary School Named a Parent Involvement School of Excellence (March, 2006)

Smith Elementary School is the first school in Frisco Independent School District to be awarded the National PTA’s certification as a Parent Involvement School of Excellence, according to an announcement by the FISD Council of PTAs. The award goes to schools that meet National PTA standards set parent involvement in areas of communicating, parenting, student learning, volunteering, school decision making/advocacy and collaborating with the community.

A committee of Smith faculty, parents and community members met over the course of several weeks to assess Smith in the six areas. As a result of the committee’s findings, an email system was set in place allowing teachers to communicate to parents. Principal Matt Kimball worked with FISD to create a way to communicate to all Smith parents through a school wide email distribution list.

Smith Elementary is now encouraging all Frisco schools to undergo the same certification process.
