Curtsinger Elementary Team Supports FEF 100 Percent(September, 2007)

Curtsinger team is first to reach 100 percent participation

The faculty and staff at Curtsinger Elementary were the first to reach 100 percent participation for the Frisco Education Foundation Payroll Deduction/Employee Contribution Plan program this year, according to Allison Miller, FEF Director.

“We are so proud of the Curtsinger campus. The teachers and staff in addition to giving of their time and talent are willing to make a financial investment as well so that the children of FISD employees as well as other graduating FISD seniors may receive college scholarships. Many of these teachers do not have high school students at home, but they are willing to invest in the future. All of our campuses and departments are currently signing up participation but Curtsinger managed to get everyone on board within the first week of the campaign.” Miller said.

"Curtsingeris so pleased and honored to contribute to the Frisco Education Foundation with 100% staff involvement! We appreciate the Foundation"s dedication to ourFISD students and teachers," said J’Lynn Anderson, Curtsinger principal.

Art teacher Laverne Forwark was the Curtsinger liaison who coordinated this years event. She is elated to with the response. “The FEF is near and dear to my heart as I have heard numerous stories of how scholarships have helped so many kids in our community. My own daughter benefited from the FEF when she applied for scholarshipsprior to graduation back in 2005. Seeing first hand all of the caring scholarships given out on scholarship night -and the pride in having known many of the kids myself - made the foundation's true goal even more poignant,” she said.

Seniors who are the children of FISD employees may apply for the employee payroll deduction scholarships each year by completing the Frisco Education Foundation Scholarship Application. The Employee Payroll Deduction Scholarships is just one of many scholarships offered through the Foundation awarded at FEF Scholarship Night. This years FEF Scholarship Night is scheduled for May 15, 2008 at St. Francis Catholic Church at 7:00pm.

The Foundations is focusing its attention on participation this year. “The district employees have really rallied around the campaign. The increase in support just in the first week of the campaign has made this very evident. FISD employees truly care about their colleagues and the students in the district,” Miller said.

Other events that support FEF throughout the year include the annual chili challenge set for October 19 at Pizza Hut Park, the annual Gary Burns Fun Run set October 27 at Frisco Square and Teachers on Ice, a Spring Hockey event. FEF also provides grant money for teachers through its Grants for Great Ideas Program. Employee support also goes toward that initiative.

The mission of FEF states that “The Frisco Education Foundation, in partnership with the Greater Frisco Community, provides financial resources to maximize the potential of students of the Frisco Independent School District through the awarding of educational scholarships and innovative grants.“ Persons who wish to support FEF may contact Director Allison Miller at the following:
