Texas Recycles Day Brings Excitement for Smith and Christie Students (November, 2006)

The City of Frisco Environmental Services Department held two contests this fall and the winners were announced Wednesday November 15 on Texas Recycles Day.

The first contest was to name the city’s new recycling truck. Rachel Ruppel of Smith named the new vehicle Recyclina . The new truck was unveiled at the morning assembly at Smith.

Christie Elementary School’s Green Team, a group of 55 students, led the school to victory by encouraging the support of the battery recycling contest. The entire school brought in about 700 pounds of old batteries which were accepted by Battery Solutions, Inc. for recycling. The school won a trophy vase and a recycling receptacle to keep at the school. Mayor Mike Simpson and Rufus the Recycling Dog were on hand to present the trophy. Christie kids braved the cold to go outside for a quick peak at Recyclina, as well.
