Pioneer Heritage Students Make a Difference for Young Readers

Pioneer Heritage Students Make a Difference for Young Readers Students at Pioneer Heritage Middle School recently worked together to make a difference in building early readers.

Students in the Family and Consumer Sciences Education class (SKills for Living) joined with the Theatre Arts students to integrate their interests to help others. When the theatre students presented the musical "Seussical," the concession stand proceeds went toward buying books for the Acker Head Start Program. The sales earned $350 to be used for the purchase of books - many of them being Dr. Seuss books!

"Ready, Set, Read!" is an initiative designed for Family and Consumer Sciences Education programs in Texas to promote an understanding of the importance and process of literacy development as a basis for involving students in middle and high school in teaching, mentoring and /or community service activities.
