Liberty Student Honored by Marcus Spears Foundation (May, 2008)

Willie Forbes and Marcus SpearsFrisco, Texas, May 19, 2008 – The Marcus Spears Foundation recently awarded a $6500 scholarship to Frisco Liberty High School student, Willie Forbes, to participate in the People to People Student Ambassador program headed to Europe this summer.


Marcus Spears presented the scholarship to Willie Forbes on Monday, May 19th at Liberty High School in Frisco, Texas in the school lecture hall.


Marcus Spears has a desire to help others who try hard and seek to better their lives. “I’ve had the opportunity to see a lot of places and experience a lot of different things,” said Spears. “I know that is why I’m where I am today, and I want to give that opportunity to Willie Forbes.”


Willie is currently a freshman at Liberty High School, and looks forward to meeting government officials, interacting with students abroad, and experiencing other cultures through educational activities and stays with host families.


“I’m excited to get to see how others live and learn about other cultures,” said Forbes. “I hope
to take away many friendships from this experience.”


The People to People Ambassador Program was founded in 1956 by president Dwight D. Eisenhower as a pathway to global understanding. The Marcus Spears Foundation is pleased to see students have the opportunity to broaden their horizons, and understands the importance of assisting others.


“Life is about service,” Spears added. “If you can help somebody, you should.”

The Marcus Spears Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization that provides educational, athletic and other activities for the youth in underserved communities and financial assistance to the poor and families experiencing hardships.
