FISD Hires New Administrators for 2005-2006 (March, 2005)

With the opening of three new elementary schools and a new middle school for the 2005-2006 school year, FISD has the opportunity for naming administrators to fill the important role of beginning a new school. The Board approved the candidates at the March 14 meeting.

More than 100 administrators applied for these leadership positions in FISD.

With 20 years of experience in education, Terri Allen Gladden has been named principal of Sam and Ann Roach Middle School. Gladden has been an assistant principal for seven years, the last four of those in FISD at Clark and Wester middle schools in FISD. She taught mathematics at the middle school level for 13 years in both Dallas and Lewisville schools. She has a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State and a master’s degree from what is now Texas A&M Commerce.

A veteran educator of 20 years, Beverly Woodson has been named as principal of Calvin Bledsoe Elementary. Woodson has been an assistant principal at Shawnee Trail Elementary School in FISD for the past three years. Prior to that, she taught elementary school in FISD and Mesquite ISD. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from what is now Texas A&M Commerce.

Kathy Kazanski, currently principal at Christie Elementary School in FISD, will open Lucille Rogers Ashley Elementary School. Kazanski has 14 years of administrative experience and 24 years experience in education. She opened Christie Elementary in 1999 and was a principal in Little Elm ISD prior to that. She taught for 10 years and has worked in Rochester, Michigan and High Island and Henrietta, Texas. Her bachelor’s degree is from Michigan State and her master’s degree is from Midwestern.

Chris Hernandez, a veteran educator of 28 years, has been named principal of Christie Elementary. Hernandez is currently principal of Rayzor Elmentary school in Denton ISD. She has six years of administrative experience in Denton, Hurst-Euless-Bedford and Los Fresnos CISD. She has taught in Alice, Odem-Edroy, Calallen and Austin ISDs as well. Her bachelor’s degree is from what is now Texas State University in San Marcos and her master’s degree is from the University of Texas at Brownsville.

Robert A. Nickel has been named principal of Dr. Erwin G. and Elisabeth Pink Elementary School. Nickel has five years of administrative experience and 10 years total educational experience. He began his career in 1995 in FISD as a fifth grade teacher. He became an assistant principal in Little Elm in 2000 and has served as an assistant principal at Christie Elementary and is currently at Fisher Elementary in FISD. His bachelor’s and master’s degrees are from the University of North Texas.

More than 90 applicants were also seeking the position of head football coach and athletic coordinator at Frisco High School. Vance W. Gibson, currently the Director of Athletics and head Football Coach at Howard Payne University, has been named to fill that position. Gibson has 29 year of coaching and teaching experience at the middle school, high school and college levels. He has been at Howard Payne since 1992. Prior to that he worked in outstanding programs in Plano ISD, Sherman, Irving, Garland and at Sam Houston State University. His bachelor’s and master’s degrees are from Austin College.
