Miss Texas Visits Frisco ISD Students (February, 2005)

Miss TexasMiss Texas Jamie Story, 23, of Bedford, spent some time in FISD this week speaking to students at middle schools. The Rice University graduate (double majoring in Mathematical Economic Analysis and Sports Management) is also an accomplished classical pianist and was a National Merit Scholar in high school. She will speak to thousands of school students, business leaders, civic groups, during her reign; her platform or critical issue is "Instant Access: Removing Barriers to Higher Education," which is designed to ensure that children from all socioeconomic backgrounds can attain a higher education. During her remarks she addresses issues that middle school students can relate to . . . issues about trying to "fit in" and that it is okay to be different. She lets students know they need to believe in themselves and not worry about what others may say.
