FISD and City Win Keep Texas Beautiful Award (May 24, 2007)

Mayor Mike Simpson Congratulates Christie Elementary for winning battery recycling contest(Frisco, Texas) – Keep Texas Beautiful announced the City of Frisco Environmental Services and FISD as winners of the 2007 Sadie Ray Graff Education Leadership Award and the Keep Texas Beautiful Government Award on Tuesday, May 22.   The honor recognizes the efforts of the City of Frisco Environmental Services and FISD Green Teams to enhance their community and protect the Texas environment.

The Sadie Ray Graff Education Leadership Award and Keep Texas Beautiful Government Award are two of nine categories in the Keep Texas Beautiful Awards. They recognize those in the education field who encourage or demonstrate efforts to promote the Keep Texas Beautiful mission through environmental education and outstanding contributions by government entities supporting the mission of Keep Texas Beautiful in their local communities.

Each year, Keep Texas Beautiful acknowledges deserving youth, schools, senior citizens, community groups, individuals, civic organizations, media, government entities and law enforcement officials for their commitment to litter prevention and cleanup, illegal dumping enforcement, education and publicity of environmental issues and community beautification.

“The winning individuals, corporations, and groups have distinguished themselves as outstanding environmental leaders in Texas,” Debbie Johnston, Keep Texas Beautiful President, said. “Their efforts to improve their community environment should inspire every Texan to do a little bit more to make our state a cleaner, more beautiful place.”

The City of Frisco Environmental Services and Frisco ISD teamed up all year to offer many exciting educational programs to the students and parents in order to build a strong environmentally conscious population. Their groundbreaking efforts in environmental education programs and support affirm their deep commitment to making Frisco a truly “Green” city.     Award winners will be recognized during the 40th Annual Keep Texas Beautiful Conference, July 10-13 in San Antonio.
