Wakeland, Liberty High Schools Shine at March of Champions (October, 2006)

Wakeland High School placed 4th in the Frisco March of Champions Saturday, which is a contest for the top A, AA, and AAA schools in North Texas. Twenty bands were in attendance at the event and the Wakeland band, which is in its first year, placed 4th in the preliminary round and the final round, according to Gerry Miller, Director of Bands.

In addition to the overall ranking, the Colorguard from Wakeland took the title of Best Colorguard and the Drumline took 2nd place, leaving only a 1-point margin to the champion.

“We’re truly excited about the progress our students have made. For a first-year school, ratings and rankings at this level are astounding, and many in the audience remarked on our students’ poise, professionalism and musicianship,” Miller said.

Liberty High School, the other new FISD high school, placed 6th in the final competition. FISD continues to strive for excellence in all areas and the performance of these two new bands are fine examples of that effort.
