Liberty High School Celebrates Topping Out (October, 2006)

Liberty High School’s new home at 15250 Rolater Road has reached the point where it is ready to be “topped out,” a construction term for the day a facility is ready to have the very top beams put into place. After topping out work then begins on the interior finish out. Friday, October 19, construction crews, the student council and broadcast media students of Liberty High School, FISD school administration and board of trustees, met in the future Redhawk gym to celebrate the new high school’s “topping out” with a special barbecue lunch. Representatives of SHW Architects, Charter Builders and various subcontractors attended and joined guests for tours of the facility which is scheduled to be completed in time for classes to begin there next year.

Students from Liberty signed messages on a beam that was delivered to the school site to be used as part of the topping out process. It will be put into place and become a permanent part of the building.

“Liberty High School is located on a 63-acre tract of land and utilizes geo-thermal well field and water source heat pump design that provides environmentally friendly design,” said Cecil Cypert, FISD director of construction services. “The building is scheduled for completion June 2007.”

Liberty students are temporarily housed in what will open next year as Fowler Middle School in the Plano area of FISD.
