Leadership Frisco Goes to School(January, 2008)

Leadership Frisco at Liberty High SchoolLeadership Frisco Class XI had a crash course on education in Frisco Friday, January 11, as the class toured Frisco ISD’s Liberty High School campus and observed Stacy Walker’s animation class.

The class members began the day with an overview from Dr. Rick Reedy, FISD superintendent. Reedy was followed by presentations by Allison Miller, Director of the Frisco Education Foundation, Toni Jenkins, VP Provost of the Preston Ridge Campus of Collin College, and Cody Caudill, Assistant Director of Student-Recruitment at Dallas Baptist University-North.

The class had lunch with the Superintendent’s Advisory Council, which is made up of students from all FISD high schools.

Kenny Chandler, Director of School Improvement for FISD, spoke to the class after lunch on school improvement initiatives. The day ended with a panel discussion by school board members, Buddy Minett, Laura Ellison, Renee Ehmke and Brenda Polk, explaining board service, and opportunities for volunteering, planning and collaboration with the City of Frisco. Leadership Frisco also had a chance to interact with a broad spectrum of educators involved with FISD. That panel included Sylvia Palacios, associate principal at FHS; Sharon Oldham, coordinator of secondary math; Melanie Cornelius, elementary science instructional specialist; Laurie Youngblood, instructional specialist; Dr. Charlotte Mooneyham, speaking on social studies and physical education; John Curran, director of technology operations; Wes Cunningham, director/principal of career and technology; Jacqueline Kennedy, staff development coordinator; and David Boles, personnel director.
