FISD Employees are in the Pink for Komen Foundation (October, 2005)

Several Frisco employees have been working to raise awareness about breast cancer and to raise money for the Komen Foundation to help find a cure for this disease. Emily Mikeska, school nurse at Clark Middle School, is a former oncology nurse and she reports that so far it appears that FISD faculty and staff raised $4,706. Fourteen schools participated.

Various campuses such as Clark, Bright, Curtsinger, Centennial High School, Bledsoe and Wester have raised funds and one of the most popular fundraising events at several campuses involved staff being allowed the luxury of wearing jeans in exchange for a donation. Clark Middle School, in addition to raising funds, placed a Pink Tree at the campus where staff and even students could hang heart-shaped leaves on the tree with messages for loved ones, even celebrities, who have struggled with breast cancer. Curtsinger had a Pink day with loads of pink goodies in the teacher’s lounge that ranged from pink cookies to pink M&M candies

There are several FISD employees who have struggled with this disease or are coping with it now, making it very personal for the employees at some campuses.
