Orchestra Students Sweep Through All-Region (October, 2006)

Frisco Independent School District middle school students competed in the All-Region XIV competition recently going up against orchestra students from Carrollton-Farmers Branch and Lewisville districts. Frisco students did extremely well, with Clark Middle School taking 2nd in the region by placing 16 students.

Clark students, who are under the direction of Karina Flores, who made it into the Chamber and Concert Orchestras include Andy Kim, Omar Cheik-Ali, Samuel Oh, Odelia Kim, Raymond Zong, Alec Cheung, Raymond Wen, Mark Yang, Christine Park, Sean Shen, Ellison Jackson, Reece Knox, and Paul An. Thomas Hsu placed 1st chair in the region and will lead the top orchestra as concertmaster. Clark eighth graders Olivia Lin and Alexandra Gamez were selected for the Philharmonic Orchestra.

Wester Middle School, which is also under the direction of Ms. Flores, had six students place in Chamber or Concert orchestra. They are Min Ji Kim, Peyton Edmonds, Emma Chibnall, Shane Andrews and Alex Chen. Alysia Chen won a place in the Philharmonic.

Staley Middle School had two students selected. They were Jennifer Ra for Chamber Orchestra and Sara Kimmich, Concert Orchestra, according to Director Christina Wagner.

Pioneer Heritage Middle School, under the direction of Dr. Priscilla Holt, had five Symphonic Orchestra students selected for All-Region. They were Julia Prince, cello and violinists, Patricia Holt, Lauren Smith, Elizabeth McDaniel and Quintin Nelson.

Roach Middle School students selected include Daniel Lim, Eric Kong, Julia He, Patrick Rivera and Esther Ki.

FISD offers orchestra beginning in middle school, though parents can enroll elementary students in a fee-based strings program. The program is only five years old but growing each year.
