Frisco High Art Students Win State Vase Medals

FHS art students traveled to the University of Houston at Clear Lake to compete in the State VASE (Visual Art Scholastic Event) on Saturday, April 16th. Statewide more than 12, 000 high school artists participated in the 18 regional VASE competitions in Jan. and Feb. with only 1,331 qualifying to compete at State VASE. Less than half of these state qualifiers received state medals.

VASE is sponsored by the Texas Art Education Association to recognize exemplary student achievement in the visual arts by providing art students and programs a standard of excellence in which to achieve. At regional VASE students were judged on the basis of an interview with a judge and on the artwork itself. At State VASE students attended art workshops, portfolio reviews and the state exhibition of work followed by the awards ceremony.

Winning state medals were AP Art students Melissa Ikono, Gaby Salerno, Matt Weir (two medals), Ryan Gertenbach, Xxavier Carter, Logan Fair and Jesse Vaughn. Those progressing to State VASE also included Charlie Vu and Andrew Campbell.
