Purse Design Places Second in Competition, CHS Student Designer Wins Scholarship
(February, 2006)

Susanna Burke, a participant in the Centennial High School Independent Studies program, has been awarded a scholarship that will cover half of her tuition to the Art Institute of Dallas, according to Di Ann Hill, ISM teacher.

Burke designed a purse that was entered in a national scholarship competition sponsored by the Art Institutes and Ellegirl and her design placed second in the nation.

The purse design was the winner of the local Teen Fashion Innovators Search and won Burke a $3,000 scholarship to the Institute in that contest. Burke isn’t sure of the amount of her scholarship from the national contest, but it is expected to be about $35,000 or perhaps more. The first place winner in the national program won a full scholarship for approximately $70,000.
