Centennial’s Octathlon Team Takes 7th Place at Regionals (May, 2006)

The Centennial High School Academic Octathlon team competed in this past Saturday’s (April 29, 2006) Regional Competition, and finished 7th out of 21 teams.

Academic Octathlon is a sub-varsity competition involving teams comprised of only freshmen and sophomores. Those competing were:
Zach Pire, Mary Degise, Nirjhor Rahman, Colby Gschwend, Cindy Vermeer, Mary Schocken
Kyle Shinn, Whitney Pyterek, Justin Lazarow, Nancy Yuan, and Marrisa Yang

Top team scorers in their respective divisions were:
Mary Schocken in the Varsity Division, Kyle Shinn and Whitney Pyterek in the Scholastic Division, and Cindy Vermeer and Marrisa Yang in the Honors Division

The team came away with 9 individual event medals.

Zach Pire won a Bronze medal in Mathematics

Mary Schocken won a Bronze medal in Music

Nancy Yuan won 2 Gold medals, one in Science and one in Language and Literature

Marissa Yang led the team by winning 5 individual event medals.She earned a Bronze medal in Language and Literature, a Silver medal in Economics,on top of winning 3 Gold medals, one each in Music, Science, and Art.More importantly, Marissa won the 2nd place Silver Individual Overall medal in her division
