Titans Score in Regional Octathlon Competition

The Centennial High School Academic Octathlon team competed in this past Saturday’s (April 30) Regional Competition, and finished second in the region earning the Overall Team Silver medal. More impressive is the fact that the team won the 1st place Gold medal in the highly prized Super Quiz Team Relay.

The Academic Decathlon coaches, Derek McDowell, Joanna Cone, and Steve Cone, couldn’t have been more pleased. “In only our second year of competing, the Decathlon team finished 5th in the region back in January, and now with the Octathlon team’s 2nd place finish at region, Centennial’s Academic Decathlon program looks to be very competitive next year” says McDowell.

Academic Octathlon is a sub-varsity competition involving teams comprised of only freshmen and sophomores. Those competing were:

John Park, Marrisa Yang, Analisa Packham, Viral Shah, Patrick Kimbley, Zach Morrison

Top team scorers in their respective divisions were

Michael Brown in the Varsity Division, Antonio Figueroa and Zach Morrison in the Scholastic Division, and Stephanie Qin and Marrisa Yang in the Honors Division
