Centennial Student Has Scholarship in the Bag (December, 2005)

Susanna Burke, a student in the Independent Study and Mentorship program at Centennial High School, has won the local Teen Fashion Innovators Search, a national scholarship program sponsored locally by The Art Institute of Dallas.

Burke will receive a $3,000 scholarship to the institute. It will be awarded Dec. 15 at the Dallas Art Institute’s fashion Show. Burke designed and created a handbag for the competition and created a portfolio that follows the process. The product and portfolio have been entered in the national competition in New York.

Burke’s parents, Jim and Lillian, say they attribute their daughter’s success to the ISM program and the adults who have worked with their daughter. Burke has worked with ISM teachers Di Ann Hill of Centennial High School, Laura Simpson of Frisco High School and volunteer mentor Donna Sapp.

ISM is open to juniors and seniors who meet the qualifications for the program.
