Centennial Band Takes Top Honors at Major DFW Invitational Contests (October, 2006)

The CHS Titan Band has been competing heavily during the last two weeks. On September 30th, the Titan Band traveled to the Carrollton Tournament of Champions. This contest was attended by many of the best 5A bands in the state of Texas. The Titan Band had a fantastic performance in prelims, beating 20 DFW area bands to place 9th, thus awarding them a performance in finals. CHS was the only non 5A band to make finals, beating several area 5A powerhouses in preliminary competition. At the end of the night the band placed first in its division, winning “Best in Class”, placed 2nd in preliminary music and 4th in finals general effect with an overall 10th place finish. This marks the first time that the Centennial Band has entered competition up against some of the best 5A bands in the state.

Last Saturday, the band traveled to Desoto to participate in the 19th annual Desoto Marching Classic Invitational. After a strong performance in the preliminaries, the band made finals with a 3rd place overall ranking. At the end of the evening the band won "Best in Class", won "Best Music" (AA), and won "Best Marching/GE" (AA) and 5th place overall. This marks the first "top five" finish for the CHS Band at a major 4A/5A DFW contest. These contests mark a MAJOR accomplishment for the CHS band students who have worked very hard to bring this kind of prestige home to Centennial High School and Frisco ISD. We wish the band the best of luck this Saturday as they travel to the Birdville Marching Festival!
