Assistance League of Greater Collin County to Begin “Bright Ideas” Homework Club (April, 2006)

Martha Skelton, president of the Assistance League of Greater Collin County, announced this month that the national league officials approved a new program the Collin County league plans to initiate at Bright Elementary next year.

“We are calling it “Bright Ideas” and it is going to be a homework club where volunteers from the league will work with children at the school two afternoons a week,” Skelton said. “A lunchtime mentoring program and a volunteer kindergarten aide will come on later as the program grows.”

Denise Wharton, league member and Community Resource Specialist for Frisco Independent School District, is very excited about the program and will be working with the league to help get the program off the ground. Children will be selected by teachers to participate and Bright staff will be on hand to assist students and volunteers.
