FISD Board Nominated for State Honor (August, 2008)

Dr. Rick Reedy, FISD Superintendent of Schools, recently announced that the FISD Board of Trustees has been selected as the Region 10 nominee in the state competition for 2008 Texas Association of School Administrators Outstanding School Board. And at the annual FISD Convocation Ceremony he announced that the board has now been named one of the five honor boards that are finalists for the award.

TASA created the School Board Awards Program in 1971 to recognize school boards whose dedication and ethical service have made a positive impact on the children of Texas. The program is an excellent opportunity to reward hard-working, dedicated board members with the recognition they deserve.

Dr. Reedy sent the nomination to Region 10 in June; the selection committee reviews nominations based on criteria that emphasizes evidence of support for educational performance improvement. As the representative of Region 10, the FISD board is in the running to be named a 2008 Texas Honor Board, one of which is chosen as Texas’ Outstanding School Board. All regional and honor boards are recognized at the TASA/TASB Convention in September.

“This is a great honor and our Board is very deserving of this recognition,” Dr. Reedy said. “They deal with many issues, not the least being rapid growth, but their primary focus is always on ways to improve learning, increase opportunities and foster individual student success.”
