Each year teachers tell their students that January is School Board Appreciation Month. It never fails that some students assume the school board are the people who put up the notices on the school marquees – or the school boards.

This year Frisco Independent School District honored the current board and past board members with a reception at the district’s Maple Street Complex prior to the January 8 school board meeting. It was an opportunity for school employees, area business representatives and representatives from the City of Frisco to thank these elected officials, both past and present, for the leadership they provide the community. Superintendent Rick Reedy praised the current board and those who had come before for the countless hours they give to securing the education of the district’s children.

Several past board members attended the reception including, S.W. Christie, Pete Hosp, Bill Minter, Sam Roach, Richard Scoggins, Isabel Sem and Jane Whitledge. The past board members were presented with a gift of a custom-decorated cookie shaped like a schoolhouse. Several guests observed that it was an appropriate gift for a district that builds multiple schools each year.

The current board members include board President Buddy Minett, who is self-employed in commercial real estate and a former city council member. Minett and his wife Joni, have five girls, three still in school and two of whom have graduated from Frisco High School. He is a manager at DataProse, Inc. Mossakowski has been a very involved parent volunteer with Frisco youth sports activities.
