David Kuykendall, FISD Athletic DirectorWho Do The Teams in Frisco ISD Play……It Depends (August 21, 2006)

As Frisco ISD has grown to four high schools and six middle schools, on any given night it can get pretty confusing as to who plays who, when and where. We have two high schools that play all varsity/sub-varsity competition at the 4A level, one high school that plays all varsity/sub-varsity competition at the 3A level, and one high school that plays varsity individual sports and sub-varsity team sports. Having clarified that, exceptions occur for all four high schools in the following sports: swimming, wrestling and soccer. Also, not to throw anyone off, our six middle schools are in a 13 team middle school district that includes McKinney ISD with four schools, Sherman, Denison and Highland Park.

A better way to break it down might be to list the sports that are played and the teams that will be played. Here goes.

Frisco HS and Centennial HS will participate at the varsity and sub-varsity level in the following sports in District 9-AAAA: football, volleyball, team tennis, cross country, basketball, baseball, softball, golf, track and spring tennis. The teams that comprise District 9-AAAA are: Frisco, Frisco Centennial, Lake Dallas, Little Elm, McKinney, McKinney Boyd, McKinney North and The Colony.

Wakeland HS will participate at the varsity and sub-varsity level in the following sports in District 9-AAA: football, volleyball, team tennis, cross country, basketball, baseball, softball, golf, track, and spring tennis. The teams that comprise District 9-AAA are: Bonham, Celina, Frisco Wakeland, Pilot Point, Princeton, Prosper, Van Alstyne and Whitesboro.

Liberty HS will participate at the varsity level in the following sports in District 9-AAA: team tennis, cross country, golf, track and spring tennis. The teams that comprise District 9-AAA are: Bonham, Celina, Frisco Wakeland, Pilot Point, Princeton, Prosper, Van Alstyne, and Whitesboro. Liberty HS will participate at the sub-varsity level in the following sports and will not be assigned to a district for the ’06-’07 school year: football, volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball (In the ’07-’08 school year Liberty HS will join Wakeland HS in playing the varsity team sports against the 9-AAA opponents, except football).

Frisco HS, Centennial HS, Wakeland HS and Liberty HS will participate at the varsity level in swimming in District 6-AAAA. The teams that comprise District 6-AAAA in swimming are: Azle, Denton, Denton Guyer, Denton Ryan, Frisco, Frisco Centennial, Frisco Liberty, Frisco Wakeland and North Richland Hills Birdville.

Frisco HS, Centennial HS, Wakeland HS and Liberty HS will participate at the varsity and sub-varsity level in wrestling in District 16. The teams that comprise District 16 in wrestling are: Carrollton Creekview, Carrollton Smith, Carrollton Turner, Frisco, Frisco Centennial, Frisco Liberty and Frisco Wakeland.

Frisco HS, Centennial HS and Wakeland HS will participate at the varsity and sub-varsity level in soccer in District 14-AAAA. The teams that comprise District 14-AAAA in soccer are: Dallas Highland Park, Frisco, Frisco Centennial, Frisco Wakeland, Little Elm, Prosper, Richardson Pearce and The Colony. Liberty HS will participate at the sub-varsity level in soccer and will not be assigned to a district for the ’06-’07 school year (In the ’07-’08 school year Liberty HS will join the rest of the FISD high schools in playing varsity soccer against the 14-AAAA opponents).

If you are not already confused, here are the teams that will make up our middle school district: Staley, Clark, Pioneer Heritage, Wester, Roach, Griffin, McKinney Faubion, McKinney Evans, McKinney Dowell, McKinney Johnson, Sherman, Denison and Highland Park.

Bottom line, check your son/daughter’s own school website, or you can check our Frisco ISD athletic website. If that doesn’t work check with your son/daughter’s coach, they will know how to help you. If you are like me you are excited about watching our kids in Frisco play against teams from all over Collin county. It’s going to be awesome, if I can only keep up with who’s playing who, when and where.
