Pioneer Math and Science Team Takes 1st Place in Science (April, 2007)

Pioneer Math and Science Team

The Pioneer Heritage Middle School Math and Science Team went to State Competition in San Antonio and walked away with 1st place honors in science. It was the first state academic award to be won by a PHMS team in the school’s history. The team competed against thirty-five 4A teams from across the state. PHMS sixth grade students Rey Johnson and Tannaz Rajabi tied for 1st place overall in 6th grade science. Seventh grade student Christopher Johnson took 1st in science and scored the highest among all students competing in science. In math, Christopher Johnson received a medal for his 14th place standing.

In addition to the 1st place ranked students, other competing 6th grade students that experienced success were Kierstyn Barnes, 5th place, Michael San Nicolas, 9th place, Ryan Hemenway, 14th place, Logan Bouma, 23rd place, and Amber Rosamond, 60th place. In 7th grade science, Brayden Efseroff placed 10th, Jonathan Bedard, placed 14th , and Thomas Etherington, placed 28th.

Coach Donna Ruder reported that the students did extremely well individually but also worked together as a team to bring home Pioneer’s first academic team trophy.
