Wasting no timing kicking off the new year, the students from the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) headed out of the classroom and toured one of Frisco’s newest restaurants, Smashburger to learn more about how franchise operations are run.
YEA! is a groundbreaking program that teaches students from all walks of life how to make a job- not take a job. In addition to lessons inside the classroom, YEA! introduces students to all types of areas of business through field trips, guest lectures, introducing them to business mentors, etc. Members are students from FISD middle and high schools.
By engaging in this hands on approach to learning, students are able to identify with what it takes to to build and promote a city wide recycling planand how this relates to them as they develop their own business plan. It is trips like this that make YEA! the unique experience that it is- and takes experiential learning to a whole new level.
This month, the students in YEA will be visited by Mark Bennett of the local law firm Strasberger and Price. In addition to learning about how law firms function, they will be discussing such issues as the legal structure of companies and how to write a business plan.
There is still room in YEA for local business leaders to join hands with young entrepreneurs to share knowledge and touch the future through a child. Contact the Frisco Chamber of Commerce for details. |
