Tammy Turner of Scoggins Middle School has been nominated as the Library Media Specialist of the Year. She is one of three finalist in the state and will discover if she is selected in February.

Tammy Turner, library media specialist at Scoggins Middle School in Frisco ISD, has been identified as one of the top three finalists for TCEA (Texas Computer Education Agency) Library Media Specialist of the Year.  According to the TCEA website, the award “will recognize a Texas certified librarian who actively promotes the integration of technology in the library media center and works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, and students to promote and support the integration of technology throughout the curriculum”.  Finalists were selected based on their nomination form; previous publications, awards, and honors; professional references; and other documentation demonstrating their integration of technology in the library.

All three finalists receive a monetary prize and a plaque in honor of the recognition.  Turner recalls receiving a phone call indicating her finalist status.  “The TCEA representative asked me if I knew I had been nominated.  I told her yes, but I was so surprised with so many wonderful library media specialists in the field that I had been nominated and was one of the top three.  I am grateful to all of the librarians who have mentored me, and I am extremely excited to represent Frisco ISD at the banquet.  It’s gratifying to see how the collaboration and technology integration I do with the students and teachers at Scoggins is being recognized and celebrated.”  Turner has been invited to attend a banquet at the TCEA Conference in Austin in February. The winner will be announced then.

Scoggins Principal Barbara Warner expressed her pride in Turner’s nomination and in the school’s library program. “Tammy truly goes above and beyond in her role as our library media specialist at Scoggins and is always working to find ways to collaborate with teachers and integrate technology into her book talks and lessons with students. I so appreciate her commitment to continuous learning and growth; it definitely benefits our library program, our students, and our teachers. She is very deserving of this honor, and we hope she wins!”
