CoServ's Dennis Engelke, center, makes presentations to Frisco Education Foundation and FISD |
|
Dennis Engelke, Director of CoServ Member and Employee Relations, didn’t arrive with a big sack of toys over his shoulder but for Frisco Independent School District and the Frisco Education Foundation, the two checks he presented certainly brightened the season.
Much of FISD is provided energy by CoServ, which is the business name of the Denton County Electric Cooperative. The company has a long and supportive history with Frisco schools.
“I am presenting two checks today – one to the district and one to the Foundation,” Engelke said. “Because we are a cooperative, our profits go back to the members. Our Board of Directors has approved retiring capital credits this year and on their behalf, I am here to present $39,090.25 to the school district.”
But CoServ also supports an endowed grant for teachers. Allison Miller, Director of the Frisco Education Foundation, accepted a check for $30,000 to the grant fund, which brings the endowment up to $85,000.
“CoServ is a very generous partner and sets an example to all other area companies for community support,” Miller said. “Our teachers truly appreciate the grant money and put it to good use in the classroom.”
Engelke said that CoServ realizes that many times teachers may need something for their classroom or have an idea for a project that they have to fund themselves. “We want to help them. We also want to be able to provide a small stipend if there is a class or workshop they want to take.”
Dr. Rick Reedy, superintendent of schools, accepted the check along with Assistant Superintendent Richard Wilkinson. Reedy noted that he himself is a CoServ member as is much of FISD. The relationship between CoServ and FISD continues to be a strong one. Reedy commented that FISD has recently announced the naming of a new facility for the late Robert Cobb, father of the current CoServ District 4 Director Jerry Cobb, who is also a strong individual supporter of FISD.
