Students who will be six years old on or before December, 31, 2012, are eligible for kindergarten acceleration. If the student meets the testing criteria, he/she will advance to the first grade. The testing will take place June4-5, 2012.
- Parent(s) must attend an orientation before kindergarten acceleration testing is administered. The orientation meeting will be held at the student's perspecitve campus. Please see campus website for more information. Spring testing will be addressed during Kindergarten Round-Up. It is recommended that parent(s) attend without children.
- Requirements below apply to both spring and fall testing.
- Parent(s) must complete an application and return it to their child’s school counselor. A copy of the child’s birth certificate and a copy of the child’s FISD enrollment form must be attached to the application. The application is available at the parent meeting.
- When the completed application is returned to the counselor, the parent will receive a preschool information sheet and two social skills inventories (one for the parent to complete and one for the preschool teacher to complete)
- Kindergarten acceleration testing in the fall is done at the child’s home campus. Kindergarten acceleration testing in the spring will be conducted at location TBD at a later date).
- Parents will be contacted regarding test results. Recommendations will be discussed. Appeal of the testing results will not be available.
- A student who tested in the spring may not test again in the fall because test results are valid for one year.
- Frisco ISD does not accept another district’s kindergarten acceleration testing. A student who enrolls in Frisco ISD must meet Frisco ISD standards if deadlines have not passed.
Criteria - The testing process is administered in phases. A child must master Phase I to be able to progress to Phase II
- Phase I – An achievement test is administered to determine the child’s level of achievement. Subtests in vocabulary, language, and math are administered. A composite score of 85% or higher is required to advance to Phase II.
- Phase II
- Math Assessment: Minimum score must be 90%.
- Literacy Assessment: Students should meet passing rate in 3 out of 3 areas.
- Reading Level: A DRA score of 6 or above.
Remember: If you want your child to be considered for Kindergarten Acceleration, you must attend the mandatory parent meeting. (see date, time, and location as stated above).
