This year marks the 100th birthday of Texas Parent Teacher Association. With that in mind, it seemed a good time to thank our local PTA Council and our local campus PTAs for their many hours of hard work and their support of Frisco students and Frisco ISD.
PTA has always worked hard for our students. For those readers who still think PTA is all about baking cookies, I need to bring you up to speed.
In Frisco our PTA officers and members serve as our first line of volunteers. They hold the rest of us to a very high standard of involvement. Our teachers rely on PTA volunteers to help with every day issues such as running copies, laminating, cutting out artwork that can be used on bulletin boards and in class. PTA officers are often consulted when teachers and administrators are examining how well programs are working in the schools. While we in Administration pride ourselves on providing the best for our classrooms, it is the PTA that brings forth the extras such as poster makers, additional books, and other items to make a campus better able to meet the needs of students. PTA also makes our educators feel appreciated with luncheons, breakfasts and special touches that tell us all we are important in the lives of their children. PTA volunteers organize fundraisers and events with executive skill and care.
PTA funds many extra programs for our students such as animal experts, scientists, artists, writers, and performers. These programs, in addition to field trips and speakers provided by FISD, ensure Frisco students are well-rounded in all areas and provide amazing enrichment opportunities.
One change I know I’ve seen over the years is that PTA is no longer just an organization of women – though they are still the driving force of PTA. We have many dads and grandparents involved in PTA in Frisco, making it a broad-based parent and teacher institution.
Gone are the days when parents only came to school when a child was in trouble with the principal or on open house night. Our PTAs partner with us in the education of all students, making the FISD community a true family effort.
Happy Birthday Texas PTA. May the next 100 years be as rewarding.
Sincerely,
Rick Reedy,
Superintendent of Schools
