Bright Elementary School will begin its transition to Bright Academy starting in the 2018-19 school year. It will offer a unique style of teaching and learning to increase students’ understanding of global issues, languages and cultures. The curriculum will combine knowledge and skills from multiple subject areas in hands-on lessons designed to help students make connections to the real world. This transdisciplinary approach will emphasize in-depth, collaborative inquiry and essential skills such as critical and creative thinking, communication and problem solving.

Bright Academy will feature:

  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), if the District’s candidacy application and request for authorization are approved

  • Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Launch, a pre-career and technical education program focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)

  • Spanish language enrichment for all students in grades K-5

  • One-to-one technology ratio and additional technology resources 

  • Small class sizes to support innovation and interdisciplinary studies

  • Additional professional staff to support inquiry-based instruction and enrichment

  • Teachers specifically selected from across FISD to teach in an innovative, interdisciplinary environment and supported with high levels of training

  • A redesigned library, with the addition of a makerspace

  • New collaborative learning spaces, including flexible seating and furniture

Parents who live in Frisco ISD and will have students entering grades K-5 in the 2018-19 school year are invited to attend one of the following information sessions:

  • Tuesday, March 6 – 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Vandeventer Middle School, 6075 Independence Parkway

  • Wednesday, March 7 – 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Maus Middle School, 12175 Coit Road

  • Wednesday, March 21 – 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Griffin Middle School, 3703 Eldorado Parkway


Bright Academy will automatically enroll students who live in the Bright attendance zone.

Elementary students from across Frisco ISD may submit an admissions form to express interest in attending the school. Students will be randomly selected for enrollment using a lottery process based on the number of seats available. The number of seats available may vary based on the interest within the Bright attendance zone.

The admissions form was live on this website March 22, 2018 for students entering grades 1-5 in the 2018-19 school year. The admissions form for incoming kindergartners was available starting April 16, 2018. Both forms closed at 11:59 p.m. on April 20, 2018.

Five seats will be reserved in each grade level for new-to-Frisco ISD students who enroll in the District after the conclusion of the 2017-18 school year.
