Professional Learning Committee

This year the committee’s primary purpose will be to complete a review of all districtwide professional development policies, procedures, practices, and initiatives. The overall goal is to:
- Increase every campus’ capacity to plan quality of professional learning opportunities
- Empower staff to serve as an advocate and resource to impact quality professional learning
- Network, share and collaborate on best practices
- Study professional learning models, designs, practices, and processes
We are in year three of many of our districtwide professional development practices, operating procedures, and initiatives which makes for a perfect time to assess our strengths and weaknesses and establish goals for the three years ahead.
Effective professional development planning begins by examining the results our district wants for students and staff. This is driven by three basic questions:
- What has the district and school decided that students must know and be able to do?
- What must our teachers know and be able to do to ensure that students achieve the designated district and school goals?
- As a result, what content and learning processes are most likely to develop the necessary professional skills and knowledge to produce success?
Like many districts, we are always refining and exploring our response to these three questions by continuing to have conversations about the impact of teacher practices on student success.
